Creating Your Own eBooks

Now, more than ever, is a great time for writers to get their stories in the hands of more readers. With self-publishing tools all over the internet and those being offered for free on Amazon it might seem like there would be an overabundance of books available online. There are hundreds of websites out there that can help you create your very own eBooks and most of those are for free.

Personally, I like this new Kindle Creator App that you can get for free. It will help you create a perfectly formatted Kindle eBook by uploading your story from a Word Document. For kids books in Acrobat Reader PDF format they have a separate free app you can download and use. They have the Kindle Previewer app to make sure that you story lays out correctly on a smartphone, iPad or similar sized eReader, and Computer. These you can use on your computer prior to uploading your book to the KDP Bookshelf for publishing.

Smashwords still requires that you upload your book to their website. They do have a FREE Style book that you will need to download and conform your Word document to conform to in order to have less errors during the upload process. Once you have uploaded your story for them to publish you will be allowed to download your eBook in each of the formats that sell them in to ensure that it is properly formatted for each of the readers.

Amazon has a Free Book Cover Creator that you can utilize but does have a limited number of layouts, looks and colors. If you can afford it you might want to pay someone to create a fresh looking exciting book cover for you. You can ask to have it saved in a variety of formats and DPI sizes with 600 DPI being best if you want to use it for paperback printing. There is also a FREE limited eBook cover creator program available online using stock pictures and designs but they will allow premium services and your own photographs for only a few dollars more per cover. I have been using Canva.com and it seems to be working pretty well. They allow me to upload my own images and create High Quality eBook covers online for free.
