Learning effective social marketing skills is essential to every single published author whether you self publish or not and even if you publish just in eBook format or in other formats as well. The simplest thing a published writer can do these days besides having their own website is to create a public Facebook Page.

This IS NOT the same as a personal Facebook page where people have to ‘Friend’ you to see your posts and message you. It is a page like a website page that everyone around the world can find you and your published books. The personal Facebook page should stay just that, only for your friends and family. They are a base to build on but if you and they are sharing personal details and pictures of your kids and grandkids then that should be locked down in the settings. The Facebook Page should be treated like the public image of your writing image.

Marketing for eBooks is just a little bit different than physical copies of your book. You cannot hold it up and show it to potential buyers. That is why the book cover is so important. You can show the book cover in a flat picture, created a 3D image of it inside a tablet or smartphone and you can create a short vignette of your characters and quotes from the book in a video. If you are familiar with Power Point 365 it now allows you to create storyboards, animate the text and pictures, insert a short video and have transition effects between scenes. You can add voices reading the text and music to the background. Finally, the program will export it as a movie that you can upload to your Youtube Channel and/or Facebook Page.
